After spending the first 22 years of my life in Texas (The Woodlands and Fort Worth at TCU for undergrad), I’m now a lawyer living in the Second City learning (and soon practicing) the law and more importantly, having fun in my kitchen. I live in a high-rise condo building in Old Town with my boyfriend Dave and our wonderful cat Lucy. Dave takes most of the pictures with his Canon Rebel and we do what we can with the shitty sub-par lighting in the kitchen. When I am not cooking, I’m out enjoying the farmers’ markets, running along the lake or in Lincoln Park, and basically enjoying everything about being Whitney In Chicago.

Whitney, just spent some time with your mother at the SBB graduation UTMB in Galveston and she told Hannah and I about your “blog”. It was great seeing a picture of you and your “boyfriend”. You were at my wedding in 1990 – on the beach? I have known your mother before you were born and have seen you grow up in pictures!! We love your deserts and now have to go eat since your pictures made us hungry. Keep up the good work. Janet Vincent and Hannah Acevedo.

    Hi Whitney!

I happily stumbled across your blog today from Kath Eats – I love her site and am happy to have found yours since I too live in Chicago. In fact, we are neighbors – I live near North Ave. on E. Schiller!
I’m a fan of running as well and I’m not sure what races you are planning for this year but I’d love to get to know you and possibly run together (?) if that interests you!

Thanks for the blog inspiration – I’m dying to start one myself.

    Take care,
    Emily

    Hi Whitney!

I stumbled across your blog and really enjoy it. Are you also studying to become a lawyer?? How do you find the time?! I’m a full-time student right now, going into nursing, and finding the time for anything enjoyable is impossible.

Let me know how you do it!

Hi Courtney, thanks for stopping by.

Well, I am a third year law student at this point so I have pretty much gotten into the groove/burnt out with school and I don’t have a part time job this semester and only 2 classes plus an externship, so needless to say, I have some free time.

Once you get into the groove of school I feel like things start to feel less overwhelming, but I can def. remember times in college when classes took over my life.

Remember to have some fun and congrats about nursing.

Hi Whitney…I linked over from Homesick Texan….the buttermilk dressing post. I work in downtown Houston, mother of 6 kats and have worked for attorneys for 27 + years . My husband ( former Navy cook ) and I have both worked in restaurants in various jobs and are complete food freaks.

    Your blog is lovely.

    Greetings from Humble Texas

Just gotta say…..I laughed at your homesick post. I was a homesick Texan in Rockford, Illinois for about 8 years and we visited Chicago quite often. It is an amazing city! I am from Houston too (born and raised) and met my husband working at Pappas seafood house in Humble. We fell in love there and I was also in love with the Ponchartrain and the seafood gumbo.
In all the years we lived in the midwest… I never tasted any other barbque that rivaled Pappas or came close.
My husband got a job with the government that took us to the upper midwest, we had three beautiful children born in Illinois( I thought I would at least have one born in Texas but noooooo!) and we just moved to Tucson,AZ 6 months ago. I miss the cool summers already, but my kids can actually enjoy swimming now without having blue lips and shivering their bottoms off!

Enjoy Chicago! Good luck on the Exam and thanks for the ranch recipe. Can’t wait to try it.
